Trisomy 13, often known as Patau syndrome is a numerical chromosomal abnormality that occurred by an error in meiosis cell division, during fetal development. It results in three chromosomes 13 instead of a pair. The present condition is usually non-inherited but has a low life expectancy. Karyotyping is a technique used for the detection of trisomies.
