Freelancing is free! It offers high-paying opportunities in genetics and other biological science fields, and it also doesn’t require any lab work. I started my career as a freelancer and built my company.
But freelancing isn’t that easy. You need to find a place(s) to list your skills. And… as a biological science graduate, it’s not routine for you to search and find such things.
No worries.
In this article, I will list all the freelancing opportunities not only for genetics but for all science graduates in general. [Spoiler] All are free!

Freelancing platforms:
Let me tell you, there are many websites on the Internet, where you can list yourself, your skills and start earning from day one. It’s literally that easy! Just go to the freelancing platform, sign up and fill in the information, that’s it.
Here is the list of platforms and their website links from which you can start.
Platform | Website link |
Upwork | www.upwork.com |
Freelancer | www.freelancer.com |
Fiverr | www.fiverr.com |
Kolabtree | www.kolabtree.com |
Toptal | www.toptal.com |
People per hour | www.peopleperhour.com |
Taskrabbit | www.taskrabbit.com |
Homework help and Educational support platforms:
There are platforms helping students with their homework and projects. How does it work? Students list their questions, and you have to answer them. If it is correct, they pay!
I worked for 2 years with the World’s leading homework help and educational support service- Chegg. But in 2025, Chegg isn’t the only one! Here is the list of homework-help or educational support platforms.
Platform | Website link |
Chegg | www.chegg.com |
Wiingy | www.wiingy.com |
Tutor | www.tutor.com |
StudyPool | www.studypool.com |
Preply | www.preply.com |
Social Media platforms:
Social media platforms are a great (indirect) way to work as a freelancer. You can build your profile on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, ResearchGate and Twitter, post content (as per the platform) and help people solve their problems.
They will give you the work directly. You just need to build an extraordinary profile. As I know, LinkedIn and Instagram are the two best platforms where you get quality clients and work.
Trivia:
Why will someone charge you to pay? Think about… Beware of fraud.
Your own website:
Having our own website is a great way to be a freelancer. Building a website from scratch isn’t rocket science these days. You can even build a free website without investing in a domain and start your work.
What you have to do is list your expertise, interests, education, past clients (if any), experience for the work you listed, etc. Some basic information like your name, photo, address, email, payment, etc.
That’s it, your profile is ready!
Now, anyone will searches for freelancing or work that belongs to your expertise, your website appears, they click and you will get the work. Isn’t that amazing?
However, if you have your own domain and hosting, some knowledge of SEO, and how to work on Google, you can get more visitors, which means more work! We are planning to launch a video class on making a website for students. We will notify you here.
Email marketing:
I have thousands of emails. They subscribed to our blog or academy, we send them emails, share knowledge and get some work in return. You can also do that. However, it needs a bit of digital marketing knowledge, but you can do that.
Look for someone who posted work, get their email address from social media, contact them and that’s it!
Tedious… but works! This strategy works for big projects.
In addition, let me tell you that there are free platforms available that help you to send bulk emails too. All these things, I guess, can be covered in a video class.
Comment below and let me know who is interested. We haven’t planned something like that, but if people are interested, we will conduct a free course or class around this.

Trivia:
Copy/paste works aren’t real. Again… fraud.
Key takeaway:
- Every platform has a somewhat similar process for freelance registration.
- Click the link and sign up with your email.
- Fill in all the details (don’t bluff!). Provide correct information.
- Verify your identity and upload documents.
- You are now good to go.

Wrapping up:
Nothing is impossible in the world, but not easy either. As biological science students, we have to learn things that aren’t taught in college. There are thousands of documents and guides on how to do freelancing.
With some extra effort, you can do that. I’m a geneticist and built my own website by learning web design myself. If I can, then you, too, can do that. I strongly recommend starting with freelancing platforms like Fiverr or Upwork.
Then expand to other fields. I hope you enjoyed this article. Do share and subscribe to Genetic Education.
